There’s a theme emerging to my work over the last 7 days.
From the corporate training to the private clients the common thread has been the subject of vulnerability. Vulnerability is a word that means many things to many people, some might say, weakness or scary…. others might say challenging or strength.
Ask yourself now, how do you experience vulnerability? Is it better to find yourself metaphorically open as you face the unknown or better to stick to what you know and put the barriers up that have protected you (some might say hindered… hey, they are only words right?) for so long? Who knows…. I’m often asked in Management training ‘What makes a great leader?’ and I reply, ‘I do not know. I’ve been in many companies where the Emperor has new clothes.
I do believe that it takes a great human being to admit that you do not know everything, are not the greatest at everything, experience humility and vulnerability and surround yourselves with people who have more skills and knowledge’
With my personal clients I quote a saying I’ve heard many a time from my friends, ‘Be the change that you want to see in the world’. In other words if you’re trying to make the world a better place then true change begins with you (Michael Jackson was right!)
To look inside and admit to you that you are worth it, you are capable and you do deserve it has potential for someone to experience vulnerability… and when you give yourself permission to do this then you will truly embrace you and step up and shine.
This was a weird old week and to cap it off one of my friends shared a link to a lady I’d not heard of before. I watched Brene Brown’s presentation and loved it so much I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy! 😉
